Desan Shipyard, owned by the Kaptanoğlu Group, which has been serving the maritime industry for more than a century, once again took part in SMM Hamburg, the leading international maritime trade fair held in Hamburg, Germany. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Germany, Ahmet Başar Şen, and Consul General in Hamburg, Emine Derya Kara, also visited the Desan stand and received information about the company’s new projects.
Operating three facilities in the Tuzla Shipyards Region, Desan Shipyard carries out ship maintenance, repair and newbuilding activities. The company participated in the 30th edition of SMM Hamburg, the world’s leading maritime trade fair, held in Hamburg from September 6 to 9. The fair, which holds an important place in the maritime industry, brought together 2,200 exhibitors and approximately 50,000 visitors from the maritime, marine equipment and materials sectors. Visitors from around the world had the opportunity to learn about the latest products, trends, innovations and services in the maritime industry.
Desan, which has been participating in SMM Hamburg since 2006, attracted strong interest from visitors this year with its two-storey stand covering 100 square meters. Located in one of the most prominent areas of SMM Hamburg, which has 270,000 square meters of indoor space and 60,000 square meters of outdoor space, Desan’s stand has been in the same location for the last eight editions of the fair and is among the largest of the 2,850 stands at the event. At the stand, Desan met with leading industry representatives and held discussions on both new and ongoing projects. Reopening to visitors and exhibitors after a four-year break due to the pandemic, the fair attracted considerable attention compared with previous editions.
Stating that the fair was very busy and productive for the company, Desan Board Member Bahadır Demirağ said:
“As Türkiye, we have had a productive year in terms of maintenance and repair. Turkish shipyards are among the few shipyards capable of producing special-purpose vessels preferred by the European market with high quality and on time. Trade fairs are very important for bringing these products together with the world’s leading companies and carrying Türkiye’s regional strength to global markets. For this reason, we are pleased to have taken our place once again at SMM Hamburg, one of the world’s leading maritime fairs. Before the pandemic, we used to attend four to five fairs a year. From a commercial perspective, we try to take part in all major fairs. Through the work we carry out with both local and international partners, we aim to represent our country in the best possible way and deliver even more successful projects.”
In recent years, in addition to ship maintenance and repair, Desan Shipyard has also focused on military shipbuilding. The shipyard delivered Türkiye’s first Emergency Response and Diving Training Boats to the inventory of the Turkish Naval Forces.
